Award Judging in the Era of COVID-19: Virtual Teams
Pick Winners in Serious Game Tabletop Competition



SANTA MONICA, CA – August 18, 2020 – With COVID-19 putting a halt on group gatherings, Serious Play Conference found a way to handle judging of tabletop games – do it virtually on Zoom.

Ron Hansen, Manager, International Serious Play Awards, gathered 30 judges in teams of 4-5 and set up weekend schedules that brought together serious game designers and higher ed game faculty from 12 U.S. states as well as an international team, one each from India, Greece, Iran, Turkey and Argentina to evaluate entries.

The International Serious Play Awards honor outstanding commercial titles used for education or training. The program has award programs for both digital games and tabletop/board games. Entry categories include: Corporate/Vocational; Healthcare/Medical; Local and State Government/Military; PreK Education; K-12 Education; Higher Education; and Museum/Visitor Centers. Tabletop winners will be announced in early September.
