Dr. Erik Verlage: is currently a research scientist at MIT and leads the Virtual Manufacturing Lab for education and workforce development in advanced manufacturing. He designs and builds digital learning tools, interactive virtual reality (VR) simulations, and educational STEM games. Through online and blended learning programs he uses learning games and novel visualizations to create a playground for optics and photonics experimentation, supporting workforce training in manufacturing. Dr. Verlage received his doctoral degree in materials science at Caltech for research on nanophotonic antireflective coatings with applications in photovoltaics and solar fuels.
