James Bower: has been CEO and Chairman of the Board of Numedeon Inc., which owns and operates Whyville.net, for the last 24 years. Over 17 previous years while a Professor of Computational Neuroscience at the California Institute of California (Caltech), Dr. Bower founded and co-directed the Caltech Pre-college Science Initiative (CAPSI). While primarily focused on introducing and supporting hand’s on science learning in K-8 classrooms throughout California, CAPSI also included a major research effort to understand how to implement inquiry-based learning within a virtual on-line game-based learning environment. In 1999, that research effort culminated in the launch of Whyville.net with an educational mission now broadened to include all aspects of learning.
