Kevin Honeycutt grew up in poverty and attended school in many cities across the United States. As he witnessed education around the country he collected powerful experiences that still influence his conversations and his work with educators. He spent 13 years teaching art K-12 in public school and for 17 years spent summers leading creative adventure camps for kids of all ages. In 1991 he received the Making IT Happen Award which is an internationally recognized awards program for educators and leaders in the field of educational technology integration in K–12 schools. The program identifies and rewards educational technology leaders around the world for their commitment and innovation.
Since 1991 Kevin Honeycutt has worked with the nonprofit, creative, educational consultancy known as ESSDACK and has spoken to and consulted with hundreds of thousands of educators and students in 49 US states as well as countries all over the world. What he brings in all of his messages is the impact of personal relevance and learner engagement in the learning process. He likes to say that it is only through accessing people’s emotions that one can write on them with positive, permanent learning ink. After co-developing the Life Practice PBL model he has gone on to share this powerful, role-play based curriculum with educators and kids everywhere he travels. Covid-19 has done much to darken faces and imaginations but Kevin is determined to bring inspiration and excitement back to classrooms whether online or in person. He has traveled the world collecting powerful ideas and examples and he is bringing the cream of those experiences to the Serious Play Online Conference.
