Lainie Clowers is a K-8 science educator with nineteen years of experience serving the students of Orange County Public Schools in Florida. Lainie began her career at the middle school level where she taught sixth to eighth grade science for fourteen years. She is currently inspiring the scholars at Dream Lake Elementary School in Apopka, Florida. Aside from serving as science lab instructor, Mrs. Clowers-Gwynne also teaches computer science to third to fifth graders during after school clubs- Girls Who Code and DLE Coding Masters. She is also the coach for the DLE Jedi Scientists STEM Club that competes annually in the UCF SECME Engineering Competition and the Regional Science Olympiad.

In 2010, Lainie was selected as Orange County Public School’s Middle School PRISM Science Teacher of the Year. In 2016, she received the high honor of being named OCPS’ District Teacher of the Year. In addition to teaching, Lainie co-wrote a Literacy Design Collaborative Science Module titled Voyager 1. After rigorous examination by the National LDC jurying team, the module was rated Exemplar and published on the LDC website where it is used nationwide as a leading teaching resource. Mrs. Clowers-Gwynne’s teaching methods stem from Dave Burgess’ quote, “Don’t just teach a lesson, create an experience” and Ron Clark’s belief that teachers should make learning magical!
