Thomas Talbot: is the Principal Medical Expert at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies and associate research professor at Keck School of Medicine of USC. Dr. Talbot was the founder of the United States’ largest medical education focused research and development program at the U.S. Defense Department. He has been at the center of many of the America’s major medical simulation and serious game efforts, including the Combat Casualty Training Consortia, the BioGears public physiology engine and the Advanced Modular Manikin. At the ICT Medical Virtual Reality Laboratory (MedVR), he is well known for USC Standard Patient, a very successful conversational virtual human platform which has garnered six gaming and medical simulation awards. Recent work has included emotionally dynamic virtual humans with visual and linguistic emotional perceptive abilities, naturalistic human-machine interactions, dynamic injury generation and performance assessment. As a pediatrician and scientist, Dr. Talbot endeavors to create meaningful improvements that will advance the state of the art in medical education and patient care.
