In this presentation, we will discuss approaches to rigorous empirical evaluation of the efficacy of healthcare-related serious games. More specifically, we will present our work on iteratively designing and implementing research methodologies to help understand and evaluate the impact of individual game features (e.g., narrative, decision agency, feedback, player perspective) on the efficacy of and engagement with serious games.

Attendee Benefits

Attendees will learn about our different approaches to empirical evaluation of serious games in healthcare, including what worked and what did not work for our team, what protocols were most successful, and why. Attendees will also learn about concrete research protocol design and implementation approaches and receive handouts outlining pathways to serious games evaluation protocol design.
