Everyone knows that playtesting is the key to success when it comes to game development. For more than a decade, play-centric design has been the gold standard in game design. But what if your game needs to be more than fun? How do you playtest for real-world impact? How do you measure it? How do you ensure that your game is and remains on the right track? In this talk, I will present best practices for playtesting and evaluating serious games, the challenges you might face, and strategies for overcoming them. Attendees will learn and practice techniques for preparing, running, and evaluating data from playtests such as survey and focus group prep and facilitation, data triangulation, and crafting your playtest narrative. You will leave with a playtest narrative worksheet that can be used to prep and run your next serious game playtest.
