Mike Farley
Adria (Hyunmean) Lee
Geography teacher Mike Farley will share his 15 years of experience using free digital games in his classrooms. The games cover a wide variety of topics such as climate change, energy management, natural disasters, urban design, migration, and peace & conflict. Teacher-ready student activities will be provided for all of the games. High school teacher Adria Lee will also present STRATA, a game she created to explore social stratification and economic inequality. She will unpack her game design process and lessons learned from initial play-testing with students. This session is geared toward educators who would like to use games with their middle and high school students, and those who are already using games but would like to expand and deepen their practice.
Attendee Benefits
Participants will walk away with a curated list of free online games with accompanying teacher-ready student activities. During the session we will explore a few of these games in-depth, looking at more specific classroom implementation. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to learn about creating a game from scratch for classroom use, and the process of play-testing, reflection, and game iteration.
